AM I ELIGIBLE?
MedStar Health takes extraordinary steps to ensure the safety of blood donors and recipients. As a result, certain restrictions apply. Below is a list of basic blood donation criteria that will help determine donor eligibility.
If you find that you cannot give blood on the first try, please don't give up, try again later! And while you're waiting for your return to eligibility, why not encourage friends, family and co-workers to give on your behalf? Urging others to give blood is another incredible act of heroism!
Basic Blood Donation Criteria:
- In general good health
- At least 17 years of age (no upper limit)
- Weigh at least 110 lbs
- No high risk factors for HIV / hepatitis
- No cold, flu, or symptoms of illness for at least 7 days prior to donation
- At least 8 weeks since last blood donation (14 days since last platelet donation)
